Serving our Community and Beyond
The 2024 Summer Youth Leadership Program is in full swing, kicking off with an exciting trip to Chicago, Illinois. This trip to Chicago included community service, college visits, and, of course, fun activities. The purpose of this trip is to expose our youth to experiences outside of Decatur, offering them opportunities they might not otherwise have. We emphasize that God often calls us to places where there is a need, and the experiences and skills acquired during this trip can be used to improve the Decatur community.
The youth also participated in a summit in Jackson, Mississippi. They stayed in dorms and socialized with other teens from nearby states. The summit focused on teaching our youth about advocacy, showing them that they can make a difference in their communities regardless of their age. They presented ideas, explored advocacy avenues, and met individuals who have represented change through action.
Back in Decatur, the participants have been actively involved in Neighbors Day on Mondays and Wednesdays. These are days the community can "shop" for clothes, hygiene items, food, and small household items. The youth participants have been a tremendous help, serving with smiles and enthusiasm, making a positive impact in their community.
