Summer Youth Leadership Program: Learning, Leading, and Serving!
Our Summer Youth Leadership Program has been in full swing with a packed schedule of learning, leadership, and community service! Recently, the teens had the opportunity to tour the Alabama Center for the Arts in Decatur and Highlands College in Birmingham, gaining insight into creative and academic opportunities for their futures.
A big thank-you to Dee Farr and Chris Hendry for visiting the NCC to guide our teens through application tips, mock interviews, and crafting a 60-second personal pitch. Their advice was invaluable!
Chef Scott Altice also spent a morning in the kitchen with our youth, teaching cooking skills and helping prepare a delicious meal. From the kitchen to the community, these young leaders have been busy serving at the NCC, participating in art therapy, hearing from inspiring guest speakers, and engaging with kids at local summer camps.
They also enjoyed a college tour at Calhoun Community College and had a blast at GoFar Park. Thank you to Amia Skipworth with Exercise for Health for teaching techniques to care for our minds, bodies, and spirits, as well as some fun and practical self-defense skills.
We wrapped up another terrific Tuesday at Kidz, Tweenz, and Teenz, where our teens love connecting with younger kids. Special thanks to Taylor Simmons from Horizon Point Consulting, Inc., for helping our young leaders build skills that will empower them today and well into the future.
What a summer it’s been—busy, meaningful, and inspiring!
