We have been talking with local restaurants about what soups they will be making for this year’s “Soup for Souls” on Thursday, March 2. The chefs are excited about preparing and serving their soup specialties. Along with eating delicious soup, you will have the opportunity to bid on some original artwork, pottery and gift items in the silent auction. We love to see so many individuals, restaurants, and companies support this great event. This year, all the proceeds will benefit our Education & Discipleship program, which is a huge expense throughout the year. We offer 50-60 classes and programs weekly and many of them use curriculum and books. We never want finances to be the excuse why someone will not attend a class or Bible study. So in that case, we give them the needed materials they need. Another aspect is our jail and prison ministry where we never ask the inmates to pay for their curriculum. It is important to us that we help those searching for hope and healing.
You can also help support this program by purchasing tickets at the Neighborhood Christian Center, Jimmy Smith Jewelers, and Kathleen’s Interior & Gifts and Elamar Skin Science. When you purchase your ticket(s) before February 24, you can come to the Center and paint a bowl or mug. Grab some friends or bring your children to come paint. If you don’t have time, you can always pick up a hand-painted bowl that night (while supplies last). We hope you can come and relax while enjoying soups from around your community!
NEW EMPHASIS: In 2017, we plan to invest more strategically in educational programs in targeted communities in Decatur along with the local prison and jail system. Ministry objectives for each neighborhood would include:
Bible Studies: Sample Curriculum (Books of the Bible, Named By God, Sermon On The Mount, The Potter’s Hand, Armor of God, One in a Million, Purpose Driven Life)
Rehabilitation: Sample Curriculum (Relapse Prevention, Life’s Healing Choices, Wounded Woman, Anger Management, Idol Addiction, Life Recovery)
Life Skill Courses: Sample Curriculum (Work Life, Faith and Finance, Life Skills 101, Boundaries)
